Job overview

The Royal Liverpool and Aintree University Hospitals Trust wishes to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Renal Transplant.

he post is based at RLH and is to join an enthusiastic team dedicated to providing a high quality kidney transplant service for patients in Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales, and further afield.

 The post is equivalent to 40 hours per week and includes a 1:5 on call rota commitment in the junior doctors rota.

Main duties of the job

·         Attend Ward 7B (the Transplant Unit) and nephrology wards to assess patients as requested.

·         Liaise with and keep informed the Consultant Transplant Surgeon on-call.

·         Attend ward rounds with the Consultant Transplant Surgeon on-call.

·         Be first on-call for the emergency care of all transplant patients and patients on a non-resident basis and liaise with the resident on-call nephrology SHO.

·         Perform and assist renal transplant surgery under the supervision of the Consultant surgeons.

·         Carry out emergency vascular access procedures on transplant patients according to their level of competence and with the approval of the Consultant on-call.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         Attend regular operating lists, out-patient clinics, consultant ward rounds, audit and academic meetings, and case conferences.

·         Take part in daily morning ward rounds to be held with all the other junior surgical staff on duty and attend the daily lunchtime Consultant-led ward rounds.

·         Participate in an on-call rota to provide cover for transplant surgical emergencies, in co-operation with other members of the transplant team.

·         Specialist Registrars and Clinical Fellows will be responsible for the collation and presentation of departmental audit data at regular audit and governance meetings, and at bi-annually at regional meetings with other centres in the North of England.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Full registration with the GMC
  • MRCS (or equivalent)

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Interest in General, Vascular, Urology and/or Renal Transplant surgery
Desirable criteria
  • A research background in immunology or transplantation

Management and Administrative

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate liaise and negotiate with others
  • Willingness to support the efficient and smooth running of the specialist service

Teaching and Training

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise and participate in teaching and training of undergraduate students
