Job overview
As a Registered Nurse on 5B you will integrate within our large staff base and Multi Disciplinary Team. You will get the opportunity to work in our post operative unit where Enhanced post op Recovery care is strived for.
You will also gain experience in our Urology Assessment Unit Based within the ward. In the Assessment Unit we see patients who have been referred from their GP/Walk in centre and we can provide them with a faster service for their Urology issues and ease the pressure on A&E. We also have patients returning for wound checks, scans and patients who have had procedures and been discharged but require input if they develop any issues post discharge
A 5B Nurse will learn numerous skills that are specialised to our area. These include:
Simple and complex post op patient management
Simple and complex wound care
Management of patients in the acute post operative phase
Pain management via PCA and Rectus Sheath
Wide varieties of Urological procedures and conditions
Management of patients with post operative ileus
Management of patients with high output stomas
Complex discharge procedures

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Planning, evaluating and delivering care to patients. Monitoring, recording and supporting patients post surgery. Fluid and nutrition monitoring and delivery including enteral and parenteral nutrition. All aspects of general nursing care. Communication with other members of the multi-professional team whilst advocating for patient and ensuring safe care.
It is expected that members of staff support training needs of all and the coaching model is operated for nursing students and new starters

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
- Diploma in Nursing
Desirable criteria
- Mentorship/teaching qualification
- Post registration qualification in relevant specialty
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience and successful completion of band 5 foundation gateway competencies
- Experience within relevant clinical setting
- Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment
- Evidence of working with students
Desirable criteria
- Recent acute hospital experience - including as a student nurse
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of current nursing issues and clinical governance
- Demonstrates awareness of own limitations
Skills

- Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately
