Aortic Senior Clinical Fellow - February 2025 for 9 Months

 Applicants are invited to join the department of vascular surgery as a supernumerary Fellow.

This 9 month fellowship post will allow a senior post-CCST trainee to experience all facets of a successful complex EVAR program from referral through the MDT process and on to treatment and follow up.

 

We are looking for a trainee at  ST6 and above for a period of 9 months commencing in February 2025. The post is subject to a 2 month probationary period. The candidate will be trained in advanced endovascular surgery with aim of being proficient at planning and executing Fenestrated EVAR.  It is expected that candidate may have to work at LHCH to support the complex endovascular program including aortic dissection management and Arch endovascular program.


Liverpool Vascular & Endovascular Service (LiVES)is a dynamic tertiary referral unit with a particular pedigree in aortic surgery. The endovascular aortic programme began in 1996, and currently treats both standard and complex aortic aneurysms. The unit attracts tertiary referrals from across the United Kingdom for its complex fenestrated and branched stent graft programme which is now one of the largest in the country. The team also supports the regional Cardiothoracic centre in undertaking thoracic endovascular cases for both dissection and aneurysms.

Main duties of the job

Support planning and delivery of complex EVAR across the LIVES service.

The Fellow is responsible for working with the MDT coordinator to present new complex referrals at the Aortic MDT.

The Fellow will assist consultant surgeons in early post operative management of all complex endovascular cases in liaison with critical care colleagues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The unit provides a comprehensive vascular service for its catchment area in North Mersey in addition to providing a tertiary service for Cheshire and Merseyside, North Wales and wider for some of the specialised endovascular work undertaken.

 We have a large EVAR programme and currently treat >170 aortic aneurysms annually, the majority by endovascular means. The practice includes the management of juxta and suprarenal aneurysms using open surgery or fenestrated and branched grafts. Our practice in these highly specialised cases is currently the largest in the UK.
