Job overview

The Deputy Domestic Services Manager will assist the Domestic Services Manager in the development and maintenance of cost effective and efficient domestic services across the Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for assisting in delivering best practice and value for money in the Domestic Services Department for the Trust.

The post holder will ensure the correct management and delivery of a range of In House and contracted services and be responsible for the operation of a Quality Assurance process which ensures that the specification is met within the resources available, and to standards that are defined.

The post holder will be responsible for providing assurance that all systems and processes in relation to operations and Health & Safety are adhered to The post holder will assist the Domestic Services manager in ensuring domestic services conform to nationally recognised standards of cleanliness in hospitals and monitoring bodies such as PLACE (Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment).

The post holder will be able to give specialist advice on methods of cleaning regarding changes in legislation, statutory regulations, working practices and infection control. The post holder will be required to effectively manage, develop and support a team of Assistant Domestic Managers.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring  effective management of the domestic services department, ensuring that at all times the department is delivered in accordance with current legislation and Trust Policies.

To Ensure that the Domestic Services Department complies with current legislation at all times.
To continually review and introduce where necessary effective monitoring measures to ensure that the supply of a Domestic service to service users is controlled at critical points throughout the supply chain.
To be responsible for ensuring that all quality monitoring audits are completed to the agreed schedule and up to date evidence of rectification is readily available

To exercise effective budgetary control i.e. ensure that cost centres within Domestic services are contained within pre-determined targets.
To ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
To ensure compliance with the mandatory and appraisal processes.

The effective management of the domestic services department, ensuring that at all times the department is delivered in accordance with current legislation and Trust Policies.


To be responsible for the overall control, organisation and operation of the Domestic Services Department at Aintree Hospitals NHS Trust.


To Ensure that the Domestic Services Department complies with current legislation at all times.


To continually review and introduce where necessary effective monitoring measures to ensure that the supply of a Domestic service to service users is controlled at critical points throughout the supply chain.


To be responsible for ensuring that all quality monitoring audits are completed to the agreed schedule and up to date evidence of rectification is readily available


To liaise with suppliers, finance department and regional stores.
To exercise effective budgetary control i.e. ensure that cost centres within Domestic services are contained within pre-determined targets.
To ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
To ensure compliance with the mandatory and appraisal processes.
To maintain records in relation to the completion of periodic/clinical/HPV cleans
To be involved in the Disciplinary and Grievance process with regard to staff under his/her control.
Under the direction of Domestic Services manager to approve and adjust by variation the specification for services in order that it continues to meet the needs of the trust.
To maintain statistical data on performance and report to the Domestic Services Manager on trends in performance, sickness and budgetary control.

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of domestic services management
  • Demonstrable experience of domestic services management within a healthcare environment
  • Demonstrable experience of working as a cleaning operative within a non-healthcare environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working as a Domestic cleaning assistant within a healthcare environment
