Job overview

Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust are working to together to create a Single Neonatal Service across both hospital sites in order to protect our most vulnerable babies and provide an improved experience for them, their families, and the staff providing neonatal care.

This role will provide leadership in developing this unique service and manage the Nursing teams through the change process as well as working closely with all stake-holders. This post-holder will be the Neonatal Nurse Champion across both Trusts.

Main duties of the job

As the Lead Clinical Nurse and Professional Leader for the Single Neonatal Services, the post holder will be responsible for the provision of safe, quality and effective services across the Neonatal Single Services this services will be provided across two Acute NHS Trusts (Liverpool Women’s and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital) as well as day to day management of the Neonatal Service.  

You will ensure the service provides the highest standards of professional practice, budgetary and performance management, and service improvement at all times; driving quality in our services to ensure outstanding patient care is at the heart of all we do.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will:

As part of the leadership team for the Neonatal Single Service, you will be working with operational and clinical teams on two acute hospital sites to develop a Single Neonatal Service this will include being part of the clinical team advising on the construction of the neonatal unit on the Alder Hey site.

Work with the neonatologist’s, surgical team and paediatric intensive care (PICU) teams to produces pathways of care for all neonatal babies.

 

Ensure a culture of clinical excellence and high-quality care is embedded and promoted within all staffing groups.

 

Lead on developing a single service across the two hospital sites.

 

Lead on setting the strategic direction for Single Neonatal Services at Liverpool Women’s and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with clear short- and long-term objectives.

 

Work in partnership with operational leader to ensure delivery of targets for the neonatal services.

 

Be the lead expert on all issues relating to neonatal nursing practice, providing guidance on clinical and policy issues.

 

Lead on regular review of Single Neonatal Services to ensure that innovation and best practice

is delivered.

 

Act as a visible role model on both sites providing positive, professional and accountable leadership to both nursing across the Neonatal Single Services.

 

Lead on patient experience and user involvement across the Neonatal Single Services.

 

Establish effective professional relationships with key stakeholders in other Trusts and other agencies; participate in regional and national meetings and conferences as appropriate.

 

Support the overall operational performance including all regulatory frameworks and DOH Operating framework.

 

Ensure resources are utilised efficiently in the best interests of the services and in accordance with both Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instruction

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree/Diploma in Neonatal Practice
  • Master’s degree in health and working at a senior level
  • Leadership and management qualification at Masters level

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of clinical experience acquired through a minimum of 3 years practice at a senior level in an acute environment
  • Experience of leading senior clinical teams and holding colleagues to account.
  • Significant experience of operational management in an acute environment
  • Proven ability to manage change in a complex environment
  • Proven ability to achieve targets and objectives within a pressured environment
  • Evidence of delivering the clinical governance agenda
  • Experience of risk management and quality assurance.
  • Evidence of effective utilisation of large budgets

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • In depth knowledge of the statutory framework governing nurses, midwives and care givers
  • Ability to set a clear strategic vision for services and bring others along to achieve that vision
  • Understanding of national and local policy drivers
  • Ability to communicate complex information to a variety of stakeholders

  • Ability to analyse a wide range of data and make decision from it
