Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a B6 MSK Physiotherapist to join the exemplar Joint Health Integrated MSK Service at MWL Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The post holder will support the continued drive for patient centred care, champion quality, deliver performance targets and safe effective patient outcomes by placing the patients at the heart of all we do. 

The Joint Health Integrated MSK Service is a single point of access service offering self referral alongside specialist assessment, investigations, and treatment for patients with musculoskeletal conditions. This enables appropriate access to all appropriate diagnostic services, treatment, and onward management when indicated. Several innovations and channels shifts have taken place in the service, accelerated due to the unprecedented times. This has been an exciting opportunity to develop our digital strategy/ delivery and incorporate the benefits of digital alongside face-to-face consultations whilst also being led by patients with lived experience and staff feedback.  

The team is multi-professional including: MSK Doctors, Consultant Neurosurgeon, Consultant Rheumatology MDT, Consultant Physiotherapists, Advanced MSK Physiotherapy Practitioners, Specialist Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist, MSK Physiotherapists, Advanced MSK Podiatry Practitioner, Specialist Occupational Hand Therapists, Advance Practice Rheumatology  Therapist, Therapy Assistants and Admin support.

Main duties of the job

  • To assess and identify the individual needs of referred patients, to clinically diagnose and implement treatment plans if appropriate in a manner that respects people’s privacy, dignity, individuality utilising shared decision making.
  • To record and report findings appropriately following the standard procedures used by the department to maintain high levels of written/verbal communication.
  • To share skills/knowledge with other disciplines and patient/carers as necessary.
  • To liaise with hospital/ primary care-based staff as appropriate to ensure continuity of treatment and provision of equipment/adaptations to facilitate rehabilitation/ re-enablement to achieve shared patient goals and effective outcomes.
  • To provide and receive complex information which requires empathy and reassurance. Communicating where there may be barriers to understanding and where skills such as motivational interviewing and counselling are required.
  • To be aware of and identify changes in service demand and report to senior staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KEY DUTIES

  • To provide professional practice education of Therapy students on placement and to assist in the education and development of other health professionals.
  • To actively assist in the promotion of Therapy through professional practice and delegated activities.
  • To ensure continued professional development including attendance at relevant postgraduate training and actively participating in in-service training.
  • To keep an up-to-date Personal Development Plan and Professional Development Portfolio.
  • To comply with the HPC Standards and Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To participate in activity around clinical audit and work towards initiatives within department/service/directorate as appropriate.
  • To ensure treatments offered to patients are based on the best available clinical evidence.
  • To ensure compliance to all Trust Risk Management, Research Governance and Infection Control Policies and Procedures and abide by the Standards for Better Health
  • Undertake appropriate mandatory training in infection control and comply with all Trust Infection Control Policies relevant to the post, particularly with regard to the Hand Hygiene Policy.
  • To comply with any statutory requirements imposed on the Trust.

  • In the absence of senior staff to take responsibility escalation of the situation in line with service processes and where appropriate responsibility for the daily running of the department.
  • To attend/participate in Trust / Department briefing sessions and to feedback and inform others as appropriate.

TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES

-       To attend all relevant training and clinical development sessions related to the role.

-       To participate in-service training sessions.

-       To attend relevant training courses and disseminate information.

-       To complete annual appraisal and Professional Development Plan

-       To provide formal and informal peer review for staff working in Outpatient Therapies / JH Service.

-       To take part in the Trusts clinical supervision as a supervisor and supervisee

-       To teach and advise carers and other Health Professionals to ensure provision of good patient care.

-       To contribute to the provision of good practice across professional and organisational boundaries.

LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSABILITIES 

  • To act as a clinical supervisor and provide clinical leadership to allocated clinicians.

RESEARCH & AUDIT

·         To be responsible for the timely and accurate collection of statistics / records that are required nationally and departmentally and to ensure that confidentiality is maintained.

  • Excellent communication skills, ability to share information at MDT case conference experience, able to deal with conflict resolution

  • Awareness of up-to-date NHS issues, Clinical Governance and its application with therapy
  • Ability to manage change in a flexible, diplomatic, and positive manner
  • Maintain own clinical role and be aware of boundaries with other professionals.
  • Have a wide range of good clinical reasoning skills, assessment and treatment skills and be able to problem solve and make decisions
