Job overview

We are looking for a Deputy Associate Director of Nursing  and Patient Experience to join our mental health team on a fixed term/secondment basis for 6 months.

This role would suit an aspiring nurse leader and is a fantastic development opportunity.

This is a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice across the Mental Health Care Division. You will be working with the Associate Director of Nursing and Patient Experience in the delivery of the highest standard/quality of care for users of our mental health service.

Your leadership will be central to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and providing motivational guidance to our clinical teams.

Main duties of the job

This role includes:

  • To lead and support the development of processes to monitor effectiveness and quality of care delivered within the Mental Health Care Division.
  • To provide professional leadership and direction to the nursing workforce in the Division and be at the forefront of multi-disciplinary practice within services.
  • Take a significant role and on the development of strategic workforce plans for all professional groups across the Division and ensure they contribute to new and emerging service models in the Division as directed by Associate Director of Nursing
  • To empower the service user and carer voice within service delivery and developments.
  • To monitor standards of service user care, engagement and participation across all settings and, taking improvement and corrective action as required.
  • To lead and develop the service user and carer involvement and engagement strategy and Equality & Diversity Agendas within the Division.
  • Support any CQC surveys and lead on any ensuing action plans arising from surveys.
  • Support the Associate Director of Nursing with the governance systems and processes ensuring effective governance nursing management with the Division and develop a quality assurance framework.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Ensure the key objectives of the learning and development contract are delivered and implemented and ensure the appropriate programmes of learning and development for senior nurses, matrons, ward and community based staff are in place to support improvements in clinical effectiveness and clinical outcomes across the Division.
  • Continue to support partnership working with higher education institutions in support of learning, development and research agendas in nursing.
  • Participate in the Silver Command rota to ensure staff have access to 24-hour advice and support.
  • In exceptional circumstances to vary your area of work to meet unplanned need.
  • Manage and prioritise own workload in accordance with the demands of the service.
  • Support quality and innovations across all teams
  • Lead recruitment and development of the workforce 
  • Manage risk and Governance team 
  • Lead PSIRF process and implement learning across the mental health care division 
  • Lead role in medicine incident safety huddle and learning from medicines incidents
  • Deputise for Associate Director of Nursing

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with evidence of post basic development
  • Educated at Masters or working towards / equivalent experience

Knowledge/Experience

  • Substantial Senior Management experience
  • Evidence of leadership training/qualification and high level leadership and strategic skills in practice
  • Experience of Effective change management
  • Experience of working with Trust Board
  • Ability to lead and build effective teams that can reflect on experience and promote a learning culture
  • Ability to disseminate information in a professional manner to nurses and other professionals at regional and national level, as evidenced by presentations at conferences or peer reviewed articles
