Job overview
The post holder will work as an integral part of the ward teams. They will be responsible for the co-ordination of all patient facilities services in the ward areas and ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
The main elements of the role are ensuring the delivery of cleaning, catering, and minor maintenance, together with other specified tasks to meet individual patient needs as determined by the ward sister/charge nurse.
The post holder will be required to work closely with contractors and support service departments. He/she will monitor quality standards, report deficiencies and take appropriate action.
Main duties of the job
- To prepare the clinical areas following discharge of patient, paying particular attention to Infection Control policies/procedures, maintaining records for audit purposes.
- To undertake general cleaning duties in the clinic
- To give patient’s food and drink when necessary
- To undertake the reporting of any repairs or health and safety issues electronically and inform nurse in charge.
- To be aware of stock levels on the ward for clinical and non-clinical items, ensuring that ward supplies are appropriately stored and that stocks in clinical areas are at appropriate levels.
- To collect specimen bottles from the Laboratory as required.
- To undertake general messenger duties as instructed by the /nurse in charge, e.g., taking blood samples and microbiology swabs to the Laboratory, taking prescriptions to Pharmacy, collecting and returning equipment from the Equipment Pool

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

KEY DUTIES CONTINUED
- To ensure clinic areas are clean and tidy at all times.
- To ensure that equipment is maintained in a clean and working order and that ward equipment is appropriately stored.
- To be actively involved in ward maintenance, reporting faulty equipment on the ward to the nurse in charge, ensuring appropriate follow up calls are made.
- To undertake reception/clerical duties in the absence of the ward clerk (answering the telephone, taking messages, ensuring messages are appropriately communicated).
- To maintain ward fridge and microwave checks as per Trust Policy.
- To maintain infection control documentation.
- To ensure daily / weekly environmental checks are undertaken and report exceptions.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 2 (Ideally in Health Care) or equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience
- Food/Hygiene Certificate or willingness to achieve before commencing in post
Knowledge & Experience

- Experience working in a Healthcare setting

- Computer literate
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
