Healthcare Assistant - Sexual Health

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 HCA to join our friendly enthusiastic and committed team. The multidisciplinary team covers the Warrington and Halton area providing Integrated Sexual Health and Contraception services under “axess”. The post on offer is a permanent position.
Applicants must be able to travel to various locations between Warrington and Halton (Runcorn and Widnes) and be flexible to work a range of early and evening shifts. Position will be based at Runcorn Sexual Health Service in Halton .
Candidates will be considered for a band 3 position if they hold an NVQ level 3 or equivalent, a national care certificate or willingness to undertake this. It is essential to have have extensive IT skills, be a quick learner and ability to adapt to fast paced environments. Good communication skills and venepuncture are also essential criteria's for this role. Previous experience of working within a sexual health / contraception service desirable but is not essential.
We offer a structured induction plan and on-going support using our whole team consisting of an existing HCA team, assistant practitioners, band 6, 7 and 8a specialist nurses, specialist doctors and consultants. We are committed to developing the successful applicant providing support on-going training.

The role is varied and includes venepuncture, assisting with procedures, obtaining base line observations, computer skills, ordering of stock,
stock replenishment, conducting STI screening for asymptomatic patients referring onward when required, results management and administrative duties .
Once skilled and competent the potholder will take an autonomous role in managing asymptomatic clinics alongside the team, testing for STIs

- General understanding of sexual health
- Good Interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to communicate well with vulnerable people from varying backgrounds and abilities and liaise with the multi-disciplinary teams.
- Evidence of ability to relate to the needs of young people
- Ability to work flexibly within a changing/evolving organisation
- Ability to work unsupervised, under own initiative and to self-motivate.
- Willingness to undertake expanded roles including venepuncture, basic sample collection, point of care testing (e.g. pregnancy testing) microscopy and other tasks necessary to development of role following appropriate training
- Knowledge of Child Protection / Vulnerable adult issues
