Specialist Clinical Psychologist Band 7 / 8a Preceptorship

Band 7 - Band 8a

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Job overview

We are looking for a qualified, or soon to be qualified Clinical Psychologist to join our Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) in Sefton, Merseyside. We are looking for a motivated person to join us and be part of a team of psychologists, therapists and assistant psychologists based within CMHTs for adults across the Sefton region.

You will be joining a hard working and busy team providing holistic care/therapies with people who experience symptoms of psychosis, bipolar, severe anxiety related difficulties, depression and PTSD.  Your role would be to provide CBT as per NICE guidance within our team.

Further training opportunities will be available and you will be supported to follow CPD opportunities to further develop your career.

Main duties of the job

You will work within a team to support people with a range of psychological issues by providing specialist psychological assessment, therapy and interventions to service users and carers, making use of a range of models, where appropriate. You will also offer specialist advice, leadership and consultation to non-psychologist colleagues and support the development of psychological skills across the whole workforce through specialist training, supervision, mentorship and reflective practice.

Psychological input is highly valued by staff within services, so you will need experience of working with other services, championing psychological interventions and developing working partnerships.

Working for our organisation

Mersey Care is one of the largest trusts providing physical health and mental health services in the North West, serving more than 1.4 million people across our region and are also commissioned for services that cover the North West, North Wales and the Midlands.

We offer specialist inpatient and community services that support physical and mental health and specialist inpatient mental health, learning disability, addiction and brain injury services. Mersey Care is one of only three trusts in the UK that offer high secure mental health facilities.

At the heart of all we do is our commitment to ‘perfect care’ – care that is safe, effective, positively experienced, timely, equitable and efficient. We support our staff to do the best job they can and work alongside service users, their families, and carers to design and develop future services together. We’re currently delivering a programme of organisational and service transformation to significantly improve the quality of the services we provide and safely reduce cost as we do so.

Flexible working requests will be considered for all roles.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be a team player, part of a supportive multidisciplinary team delivering multi tiered psychosocial interventions. We will be particularly keen if you have a strong background in person centred and human rights based approaches to healthcare, with a positive attitude and a strong understanding and commitment to integrated team working.

You will have a strong commitment to social justice as we are committed to supporting people from socially disadvantaged communities. You will have excellent communication and people skills and a proven passion for improving the lives of clients and their families.

You may be expected to audit and evaluate a range of outcomes in terms of the benefit for service users, staff and the wider service. An active interest in research, publication and supporting others to develop their evaluation skills will be an advantage.

This post is suitable for newly qualified and current clinicians. Relevant training, support and experience will be provided to ensure that if you’re successful, you will be eligible to apply for preceptorship to an 8a clinical psychology post - if professional qualifications allow and after demonstrating significant demonstrable post qualifying experience.

If you already have relevant training and experience, you will be able to start at band 8a.
