Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Substance Misuse Service based at Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral.

We are looking to recruit 1 x WTE Fixed term contract for 12 Months  Band 6 Substance Misuse Specialist Nurse as part of an expansion to the existing team.

The current team covers 7 days and also provides 2 night shifts per week.

Interview will take place at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and you will be expected to attend face to face.

Main duties of the job

Applicants will be expected to be proactive, flexible and enthusiastic in working with individuals with often challenging and complex needs.

The ability to think creatively and innovatively in relation to accessing services to address individual need, (often in the face of stigma and frequent use of services), is crucial. The post-holder will be expected to work autonomously and have to ability to think on their feet.

Although experience in working in alcohol or drugs would be advantageous, it is of less importance than possessing the qualities of compassion, understanding and a non-judgemental approach towards those with substance misuse issues.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have an enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 months.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st level registered RGN or RMN nurse
  • Significant post-registration experience of which specific experience should be at Primary Nurse level or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in substance misuse setting either in a hospital or community

  • Competent in all key skills, assessment, and referral
  • Able to prioritise
  • Be aware of national, local and professional protocols, standards and guidelines
