Apprenticeship Eligibility Criteria 

Should this vacancy be recruited as an apprenticeship, the following criteria will apply:

UK nationals or other persons with a right of abode have an eligible residency status if they have been ordinarily resident in the UK or the British Overseas Territories, or the Crown Dependencies (Channel Islands and Isle of Man) for at least the previous 3 years on the first day of the apprenticeship.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic optometrist to join our progressive the ophthalmology team at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. 

Applications are invited from GOC registered optometrists would like to work part time as part of a multidisciplinary team of ophthalmologists with a wide range of specialist interests, optometrists, orthoptists and other support staff.

Previous hospital experience is desirable but not essential as training will be given.

Candidates who have less than 3 years post qualification experience may be considered to start at band 6 level with a view to progress to band 7 once training and set targets are completed.

The role offers the opportunity to be develop clinically in a broad range of core optometry services including paediatric and adult refraction, contact lenses and low vision rehabilitation.

Our optometrists work alongside consultant ophthalmologists in paediatric, corneal, glaucoma, and retinal clinics allowing you to further develop your clinical skills.

It would be desirable if the appointee has experience and higher qualifications in an extended role.

There will be opportunity to participate in regular teaching, training, and clinical audit to enhance your knowledge and also contribute to the training of others in the department.

You should be motivated to provide the highest standards of patient care and to constantly improve your knowledge and skills to benefit our patients.

  • Minimum of three years post qualification experience
  • Undertaken advanced clinical training through continuing professional development
