Job overview

A vacancy has arisen for a Fire Safety Officer at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Working in the Estates Department providing, maintaining and continually improving levels of fire safety management, fire risk assessments, basic fire engineering support and supporting the Estates and Capital Teams in their duties. 

Main duties of the job

  • Interpret and apply the provisions of all fire safety legislation’s, Firecode and other associated guidance.
  • Develop and periodically review a clearly defined fire safety policy
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment in relation to fire, for the Trust to meet its responsibilities under the Department of Health Standards for Better Health.
  • Provide engineering fire solutions, advice in the specification of fire precautions in the design of new and buildings and alterations to existing buildings.
  • Prepare and present periodic reports to on the condition of fire safety measures within the Trust.
  • Conduct fire safety audits and fire risk assessments.
  • Manage a system for recording and reporting all fire alarms, investigate and report all fire accidents.
  • Formulate and manage programmes to meet statutory and mandatory training needs  and maintain records of all such training.
  • Develop and manage a system for the appointment of trained fire wardens throughout the Trust.
  • Manage and supervise the adequate provision, siting and maintenance of all fire aid firefighting equipment.
  • Act as the main contact with MFRS in relation to fire safety matters and information for the benefit of operational firefighting.
  • Carry out research into the development and improvement of fire precautions which may benefit the Trust.

Qualifications, Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Graduate Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Qualified Training Instructor
  • Specialist Fire Safety Courses e.g. fire Service College or equivalent
  • Extensive fire safety experience
  • Experience of training Development and delivery
  • Experience of Healthcare Fire Safety
Desirable criteria
  • Fire Safety/Fire Engineering degree
  • Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers
  • NEBSS or equivalent
  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • CFPA Diploma in Fire Prevention
  • Management experience

  • Ability to carry out effective Report writing/develop and Deliver training programmes/ Deal with staff at all levels/ Manage change/carry out fire Risk assessments

  • Ability to carry out Fire Safety Audits
