Job overview
A vacancy has arisen for a Maintenance Plumber at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Working for the Operations and Maintenance Division, as part of a multi discipline team providing reactive and planned preventative maintenance to Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
- To undertake on-call duties within the trade group, as required, to ensure that emergency repairs occurring, on either hospital, are attended to outside of normal working hours. Increased responsibility is expected to reflect no on site supervision. (see extra factual information).
- To test, repair all aspects of Hot & Cold water installations. Including; pipe work, storage tanks, blending valves etc.
- Undertaking the regular chlorination of water storage tanks establishing that the levels of free residual chlorine are within safe limits prior to reintroducing the tank into service, water temperature checks and collection of water samples for biological testing within all trust premises.
- Repair and servicing of all types of sanitary appliances including; taps,
cisterns, showers, baths, W.C.’s, urinals etc - Installation and maintenance (fault finding) of electric water
heaters and storage heaters. - work on steam boilers and pressure systems.
- to service and repair all gas equipment including boilers and other appliances, pipe work including all associated valves & fittings. The control and safe use of gas systems within hospital properties where guidance from peers is unavailable. Completing appropriate documentation as necessary e.g. landlord certificates. In accordance with current CORGI regulations. Maintaining WHT CORGI registration status. (See extra factual information).

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
Essential criteria
- Advance Craft / City & Guilds L3 Plumbing or equivalent which has been studied for whilst completing a recognised apprenticeship.
Desirable criteria
- Engineering / Building based NVQ level 2 / 3 qualification, outside of core trade, which allows the post holder to work in a multi-skilled way.

- The post holder will be required to be able to work with an appropriate degree of sensitivity and compassion when asked to work near patients / public in various settings with various levels of acuity.
