Job overview

Community Paediatrics are looking to appoint and welcome a motivated colleague to join their friendly team and build on what has already been achieved by the service.  There is a keen scope to support any specialist interest enhancements for the right candidate. The service is highly regarded locally and has 2 ST posts recognised for Level 3 training in Community Paediatrics. We also provide training for Level 2 (1 post).

The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic team consisting of 6 (5.5WTE) consultants and 2 Associate Specialists.

The department is committed to the introduction and development of skill mix across medical and nursing specialist roles. To this end, three (2.6 WTE) specialist nurses provide a specialist role in the management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and provide nurse-led follow up.

Main duties of the job

The Directorate provides health services for children in Wirral from bases at Arrowe Park Hospital, the Child Development Offices at St Catherine’s Health Centre, Birkenhead and a number of community settings.  Child Health Services are rapidly evolving in response to the challenges of the changing needs of children in the 21st century. The Directorate works in partnership with Local Authority colleagues in developing children’s services in line with government policy.

The ethos of the Directorate is to work to provide a service that is child and family centred in conjunction with Education, Social Services and Child & Adolescent Mental Health.   We are committed to a process of continuing development and adaptation driven by the needs of children locally and to exploring and pioneering new ways of improving the health opportunities of Wirral children.  The department is open to using the skills and abilities of medical, nursing and allied professions unfettered by traditional demarcations.
