Job overview
We have an exciting development in Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) for a Band 8b psychology post. This is a part-time, permanently funded post, although applicants wishing to apply for less than these hours will also be considered, as well as those wishing to job share.
The post holder will join the Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Critical Care. This post will be based at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend but required to cover flexibly the Intensive Care Units across CTMUHB, as needed.
Trainee candidates will have a development opportunity, appointed on the understanding of progression to the full Band 8b role, when further experience has been gained and essential competences have been met. It is a condition of contract that identified learning in the JD is completed.
The appointed psychologist will join a developing team of psychologists to provide an innovative Critical Care Psychology Service for CTMUHB. The post will be embedded within services and located professionally and managerially within the recently established and rapidly growing, supportive CTMUHB Health Psychology Service, covering many different specialties. Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a highly-skilled and passionate team of medical, nursing and allied health professionals to deliver the highest standards of care to patients and their relatives in a rapidly changing environment. They will work closely with the Clinical Lead for Critical Care Psychology to develop and promote psychological research, as well as support, and participate in joint quality improvement projects, audit and research with other clinical staff in the unit.
We are a dynamic and friendly team led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with two Assistant Psychologists, offering care pathways for patients and families from admission to discharge through to recovery with a therapeutic outpatient service. You will have every opportunity to participate and develop as a practitioner psychologist, making links to enable collaborative working and improve patient care. We are an active research team using the latest VR technology with patients and staff, with a strong wellbeing focus throughout our MDT. If you are dynamic, flexible and eager to work both clinically and academically this is the ideal post for you.
We have dedicated office space and administrative support and offer flexible working options. There are also good links with the South Wales Clinical Doctorate programme in Cardiff University and other university courses in South Wales.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 2000)
- Recognized training in supervision of trainee psychologists
- Completion of suitable post-qualification supervised clinical experience with specialised client group(s)
Desirable criteria
- Highly-developed knowledge of more than one psychological model
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in working in multi-professional teams
- Significant experience of working in a physical health setting and working with staff
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supervising psychologists and psychological therapists from other professions (e.g. nursing, occupational therapy)
Aptitude and Abilites
Essential criteria
- Ability to plan and organise complex activities or programmes, which may be service or client focussed, and may have long-term implications requiring ongoing monitoring and adjustment.
- Ability to provide direction through supervision, teaching and training to other psychologists, disciplines and agencies.
