Job overview
The Clinical Engineering Department at the Princess of Wales Hospital currently has a vacancy for a full time Band 6 Medical Device Trainer to provide lead technical support for various medical equipment used in clinical areas.
The post holder will be a member of a multi-disciplined engineering team and will be expected to work on own initiative and without supervision, problem solving and providing user training on a wide range of highly complex life support equipment which includes patient monitoring, anesthetic machines, ventilators, medical lasers, infusion devices, baby incubators etc
The range of assigned tasks will be carried out with the highest standard to support and enable qualified staff to provide patient care, which reflects the quality of standards and mission of the Health Board.
The post holder will be required to carry out a range of assigned tasks involving indirect care for the benefit of the patient/client in accordance with agreed protocols. The range of responsibilities will be in support of and supervised by the Medical Devices Training Manager, and will involve rotation as appropriate to the needs of the service in consultation with the post holder and in accordance with Local Service Agreements.
Although the post holder will be based at Princess of Wales Hospital there will be a requirement to work at all Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB sites for extended periods of time.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will :
· Deputise for the Medical Devices Training Manager (MDTM), attending meetings, interviews and undertaking audit, incident investigation and policy review in their absence and on their behalf.
· Facilitate and deliver training on a range of highly complex and high risk medical devices as well as medical gas safety training for all nurses, doctors and operating department practitioners involved in the use of medical devices in line with the Management of Medical Devices Policy and other relevant UHB policies. This will involve planning complex training activities based on the health board training needs analysis information and the requirement to frequently reformulate plans to maintain compliance.
· The post holder will apply various training formats, including formal training in the classroom facilities on site, as well as drop in sessions in the clinical area, to cover the whole of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board sites. There is a requirement to communicate complex technical equipment-related information to staff attending training and ensuring full understanding is achieved.
· Provide specialist expertise and advice on a range of medical equipment to a range of health professionals using persuasive or negotiation skills where required.
· Plan technical complex training courses/plans e.g. major equipment rollout projects.
The post holder will utilise their skills in using various Microsoft Office applications and internal other database applications to provide data and reports to support training needs analysis for departments within the Health Board. Candidates with a clinical background (i.e.. Nursing or ODP)
with significant experience in using a wide range of medical devices would be welcomed. The successful candidate will have significant experience in the clinical use of medical devices or in their service and support. The post holder will be based at the Princess of Wales Hospital, (this is subject to service requirement) but will be expected to travel regularly to other Health Board sites to deliver training

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will:
Be responsible for organising their own day to day work tasks/activities.
Plan, create and deliver complex lesson plans in conjunction with clinical/non-clinical staff requirements.
Mentor junior staff members.
Use highly developed skills to provide technical instruction to all levels of clinical and non-clinical staff, through-out the health-board.
Work within departmental quality procedures that are in place, which includes data entry on various computer systems.
