Job overview
The successful candidate will be based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant, and will spend time at Princess of Wales Hospital and Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda. They will complement the existing dermatology service across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and be expected to provide on average 7 clinical sessions per week. The dermatology consultants rotate between outpatients, ward work and subspecialty sessions. This allows protected time for audit, research and teaching and will facilitate the development of the dermatology service. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to service mapping and to service redesign within the new Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board.
The post holder’s job plan will reflect the need to maintain and develop their clinical skills and expertise although the central tenant of the role is focused on clinical leadership.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a pivotal role in ensuring that there are effective communication processes in place to ensure that all clinical stakeholders: -
- Are aware of the range of services available, the standard to which they operate, and the evidence base to support their use
- Understand the service vision and its implications on their practice
- Are able to contribute to the planning and evaluation of all services
As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close cooperation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board’s patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical
The post holder will provide with clinical colleagues, a dermatology service to the hospitals within the Health Board, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of
- The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients under his/her care, allowing for proper delegation to, and training of
- The post holder, in liaison with consultant colleagues will have responsibility for the proper functioning of the department in line with any Health Board operational / strategic plan(s) (as amended from time to time).
- The post holder will be expected to make a significant contribution to the directorate business planning process through active participation in the clinical directorate
- Travelling as necessary between hospitals/clinics will be required to undertake such
- There is no formal out of hours on-call arrangement with out of hours cover currently provided by the on-call physician with additional support from the on-call dermatology registrar at the tertiary centre in
- The Dermatology Department follow the RCP guidance in The Health Board will fully support 3 sessions of CME/CPD, provide a dedicated office, and maintain secretarial support.

Teaching/Training (as agreed with Associate Clinical Director)
The post holder will be responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as He/she will contribute and participate in postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally.
- All consultants teach and train at postgraduate education and less frequently at undergraduate There is a very active postgraduate training department, which organises medical education at Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
- The successful candidate will participate in the departmental weekly teaching/audit
- The post holder will be named in the contracts of any junior staff assigned to them in the future as the person expected to act as educational supervisor to them, thus overseeing their training and being the initial source of advice for doctors regarding their careers
Audit (as agreed with Associate Clinical Director)
To promote evidence-based clinical practice the post holder will be required to participate in the Health Board risk management process and in clinical audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the directorate and the Health
- The Medical Directorate identifies 4 afternoons per year for presentation of audit work. Clinical commitments for these afternoons are cancelled, and attendance is expected for senior and junior staff. This has resulted in high quality audit and review within the Directorate.

Essential criteria

Education/ Qualifications and training
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- Must be on the GMC specialist register for dermatology by the date of interview or have a CCT date within 6 months of the date of interview
Desirable criteria
- An appropriate higher degree, (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)
Experience

- Extensive experience & training in Dermatology Paediatric Dermatology Experience
- Working knowledge / experience of the NHS
