Medical Secretary Colorectal Cancer

Job overview
The purpose of the role is to provide comprehensive secretarial support to the consultant colorectal cancer leads and clinical nurse specialists, based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
The post holder will work independently to provide administrative oversight of colorectal patients on the Single Cancer Pathway for Merthyr Cynon and Rhondda Taff Ely localities.
Main duties of the job
The principal accountabilities of this post are:
- Plan own day to day tasks and duties.
- Undertake routine typing and audio typing of clinical correspondence.
- Prioritise results, organise clinical activity and patient admissions.
Liaise with patients, General Practitioners and other Health Boards/Trusts to discuss ongoing arrangements for treatment and care.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of a full range of administrative and secretarial services acquired through training and experience to Vocational Level 3 or equivalent skills, knowledge and work experience. Knowledge of UHB IT systems, policies and procedures.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of cancer waiting time targets and the single cancer pathway. Knowledge of medical terminology. Recognised typing qualification.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in a secretarial role in the NHS. Experience of a wide range of administrative processes.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in cancer services or managing cancer pathways. Experience of audio typing.

- Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail. Ability to prioritise workload effectively. Interpersonal skills, influencing and negotiating skills.
