We are looking for an exceptional person with extensive experience of hospital pharmacy services and evidence of excellent communication skills to bring knowledge, expertise, enthusiasm, and energy to our team. The suitable candidate will be a highly competent with proven experience in leadership and delivering a patient-focused, high-quality, and efficient pharmacy service.

Based at NHH, you will provide leadership and operational management for the core pharmacy services at the site, including oversight of the key functions of ward-based medicines management, dispensary, pharmacy procurement, and medicines distribution including wholesale distribution, delivered via a team of Band 6 Pharmacy Technicians.

Main duties of the job

  • Leadership and Team Development: Provide operational leadership and management to the NHH Pharmacy department, including dispensary, logistics, stores, procurement, and clinical teams. Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, actively developing the roles of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants.
  • Professional Development: Maintain close relationships with Principal Pharmacy Technicians within the Health Board and nationally, promoting continuous professional growth and development.
  • Strategic Management: Assist the Pharmacy Manager in achieving organisational objectives, ensuring compliance with relevant statutes, legislation, and best practices. Lead strategic initiatives and projects to enhance pharmacy services.
  • Quality Assurance: Provide clinical and financial assurance through audits and compliance checks, ensuring the highest standards of medicine supply and service delivery.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy, including the automated Pharmacy Robotic Dispensing System (RDS), ensuring efficient and effective service provision.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the Responsible Person for the MHRA Wholesale Distribution Licence, managing relationships with WDA customers and ensuring quality management systems are in place.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Educated/Qualified to Degree level - appropriate qualifications to register with GPhC
  • Post graduate degree or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Accredited ACT and/or Accredited MM qualification
  • Leadership and/or Management qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in Good distribution practice
  • Qualified in project management
