Job overview
We are excited to be advertising this role in our Neurodevelopmental team. The post holder will hold a neurodevelopmental conditions caseload and will support the team in the delivery of the highly specialised neurodevelopmental assessments and interventions for children and young people presenting with neurodevelopmental difficulties and complex needs. They will be working alongside multidisciplinary colleagues (Nursing, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Paediatricians) in the ND-SCAMHS service.
The post sits alongside other psychologist roles as part of the Gwent Child and Family Psychology service, which is a large and vibrant team with many opportunities for learning and sharing good practice. This post is being advertised as a Band 8a but we invite less experienced applicants to apply with a view to starting on Band 7 and to commit to a plan to develop into the Band 8a role.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve, but is not restricted to, the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including comprehensive developmental histories through clinical interview with children and young people, their parents/carers and others involved in the children and young people’s care (including professionals from other agencies), structured observational assessments including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – second edition (ADOS-2) as indicated, psychological and neuropsychological assessments and use of various evidence based tools and measures. The role will also offer therapeutic interventions for the full range of referred difficulties accepted by the ND-SCAMHS service.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Honours degree in Psychology.
- HCPC Registered.
- Graduate status with BPS.
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology accredited by the BPS, or equivalent accredited by the BPS
- Training in clinical supervision
Desirable criteria
- Other related academic qualifications
- IT skills training
- A post graduate research degree
Experience
Essential criteria
- Doctorate training across a range of client groups but must include Children.
- Knowledge of relevant psychological theories and models for working directly, indirectly and strategically across clinical areas (including neurodevelopmental conditions, mental health, complex trauma
- Knowledge of the application of psychological theory to assessment, including the limitations and relevant conceptual challenges.
- Significant experience of working with children with Neurodevelopmental conditions and their families; both assessment and intervention.
- Experience in assessment and therapeutic work with children and families across the age range with a full range of presenting difficulties and across stings including, community, out-patient and clinic settings.
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for CYP psychological care and treatment independently and within a multidisciplinary and multiagency context.
Desirable criteria
- Post qualification work experience in a relevant clinical or care setting.
- Post qualification experience of working in Child Psychology specialising in working with children with Neurodevelopmental conditions.
- To have obtained further experience of working within other Clinical Psychology specialities e.g. Child Services or Children with Learning Disabilities Service.
- Research experience and statistical expertise.
- Academic teaching experience.
