Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic, lively, psychology graduate to work within the Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service in ABUHB.

The post will be based at Llwyn Onn, St Cadoc’s Hospital in Caerleon and there will be opportunities to work in a hybrid way, with some home working as well as working from Llwyn Onn and other premises around Gwent.

The service works in a number of ways to improve the psychological wellbeing and mental health of children, young people and families. You will be supporting the work of the Psychologists and Therapists in the team in which you work.

You will need to be a good communicator, at ease in different contexts across the community and hospital bases and be able to work as a member of a team.  You will need excellent skills in evaluation, database management and research and an interest in psychological wellbeing in children, young people and families.  You will also need to have a commitment to developing new ways of working that hold children, young people, their rights and their families at the centre of your practice.  A flair for creative work and thinking outside of the conventional will be valued.  If this range of job roles excites you, then this is an opportunity for you.

This is a fixed term post until 31 March 2025 to cover the needs of the service

Main duties of the job

You will be embedded within the wider child and family psychological health service as well as the team you are working within. You will be guided by your Team lead and clinical supervisor as to your role and duties within each team.

You will take on appropriate roles in supporting the work of the service which includes:

·         Direct therapeutic intervention, individually, with families and in groups when the conditions are in place for this to be beneficial

·         Liaison and consultation to professionals in networks around young people consultation to develop their psychological understanding of a young person

·         Training to professionals to develop this more broadly in a particular area

·         Service development

·         Other innovative, often preventative, community-based projects aimed at embedding greater psychological mindedness and skill within the community.

You will be well supported in relation to your own wellbeing with opportunities to reflect on your own practice through reflective practice forums and supervision. In addition, you will be offered your own supervision space to discuss your role and reflect on your own learning.

You will play a key role in developing and/or monitoring audit and service evaluation tools within your team and in feeding this information back to the team on a regular basis.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
