An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and dedicated Health Care Support Worker to join the Haematology ward team based at Grange University Hospital.
The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the registered nurse and will be expected to undertake fundamental aspects of patient care including undertaking patient's vital signs.
The individual will be required to have good communication skills to be able to relate to patients, members of patients families and the multidisciplinary team that work within the clinical area.
Main duties of the job
Successfully complete a locally approved orientation programme.
• To support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused.
• To assist patients to achieve physical spiritual and psychological comfort.
• To participate in the delivery of patients care and undertake clinical duties that are allocated and directly supervised by a
registered nurse.
• Exchanges factual information with patients using persuasion, reassurance, tact, empathy; may be barriers to
understanding.
• To share with Team Leader information relating to the patients care.
• Assist with patients nutritional needs to include feeding assistance.
• To report any changes in a patient’s condition to the nurse in charge and respond to clinical urgencies.
• To utilise customer care skills when caring for patients and relatives.
• To maintain and protect confidential information relating to patients.
• To undertake any other duties consistent with the overall grade of the post.
• To assist the qualified nurse in recording and maintaining documentation
• To establish and maintain good working relationships with patients, relatives and members of the inter-disciplinary team.
• To work as a key member of the team with the patient to reach your negotiated goals.
• To contribute to the promotion of health and prevention of illness, as directed by the Registered Nurse
