Job overview
The Cardiology Directorate of ABUHB is looking for a skilled individual with expertise in coronary intervention to support the busy local PCI service. There is no requirement for a CCT in General Medicine for this post. Cardiologists participate in a dedicated cardiology on-call rota for weekdays and weekends.
Main duties of the job
There is no requirement for a CCT in General Medicine for this post. Cardiologists participate in a dedicated cardiology on-call rota for weekdays and weekends. A ‘Cardiologist of the Week’ service commenced in March 2013 currently operating on a 1 in 13 rota, covering the hours 9.00 to 5.00 pm. During week 1, the Cardiologist of the Week is responsible for all acute cardiac admissions via the Acute Cardiac Unit and Medical Assessment Unit. An average of 12 cardiology referrals/day and an in-patient load of up to 40 patients is expected, with a rapid turnover. Week 2 allows completion of the episode of care of most patients, with an associated reduction in workload. We have recently added a Week 3 which places a Consultant Cardiologist at the ‘front door’ from 9am – 12.30pm each week day and is responsible for all of the patients on the COD list outside of the second floor (Cardiology Wards). When not on call or covering the wards, the remaining consultants perform additional invasive and non-invasive sessions, provide undergraduate teaching, support additional clinics. There are no ongoing responsibilities for inpatients at our other sites. Two clinics per week are included in the job plan outside of the ward weeks and these are held in the eLGHs.
