Please be advised that there is a temporary top up for Bands 1,2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top up to the  living wage of £12 per hour - £23,465 per annum. This temporary top up will be in place until  the annual pay uplift for 2024/25 is confirmed

Job overview

We are looking for an exceptional person with a sound understanding of quality, patient safety, risk management and clinical effectiveness, as well as knowledge of the expectations of clinical practice and the regulatory frameworks we adhere to. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Medical Director’s Quality and Patient Safety team at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and lead on the Health Board’s Patient Safety agenda. You will work in a patient focused and forward-thinking department, supported by skilled and friendly colleagues. 

The post holder is a senior member of the Medical Director’s Quality and Patient Safety Team.   With an improvement and development agenda, the post holder will manage and coordinate a wide range of Quality and Patient Safety performance assurance functions from within the Medical Director’s corporate portfolio. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

This post will work across the Health Board with close links to the Health Board’s Divisional Quality and Patient Safety, Learning and Improvement Teams. The post holder will ensure that quality and patient safety remains firmly embedded across the organisation and at the centre of care provision, ensuring that the ethos of Risk and Clinical Governance is fully embraced and adopted so that staff comprehend that quality and safety, learning and improvement are integral to patient care.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a dynamic team and will be supported in having a creative and innovative approach to endorsing patient safety with multi-professional colleagues across the Health Board. Applicants must have a current UK professional registration (Regulated or PSA Accredited). 

 

The post holder will co-ordinate projects and portfolio topic areas within the Medical Director’s quality and patient safety agenda. Such as:

  • Patient Safety Solutions compliance
  • Clinical Standards and Effectiveness
  • National Clinical Audit and local audit support
  • Mortality Review and Learning from Deaths
  • Supporting the Sepsis Strategy
  • Handling and distribution of patient safety alerts and notices
  • NICE guidance and Health Technology Wales (HTW) adoption, review implementation and auditing
  • Implementation of recommendations of the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Welsh Government and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

As a Health Board expert and nominated responsible person, the post holder will also lead and co-ordinate on projects such as policy development, referencing Health and Care Quality Standards to apply the Duty of Quality into practice across all services and functions, whether clinical or non-clinical, clinical audit, internal audit, external audit and Health Inspectorate Wales (HIW) inspections as well as embedment of the Duty of Quality and the Duty of Candour.
