Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Registered General  Nurse to join our Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Prison Healthcare Team. The post holder is responsible for the delivery of nursing practice to the whole of the Prison population. The focus of the role is both the delivery of evidence-based practice for patients presenting with acute and chronic conditions, and the provision of preventative health care to the prison population.

As an autonomous practitioner the post holder is responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical decision-making in the management of patients. In addition, they will work collaboratively within the Prison Healthcare Team to meet the needs of all patients, support the delivery of policy and procedures, and provide nurse leadership as required.

Main duties of the job

Previous prison experience is not necessary, however we would welcome someone with a varied nursing background to work in this challenging and  fulfilling area. We would require applicants to have been qualified with relevant experience, as much of the care is nurse-led and encourages decision making. The department is well supported by a team of GPs and Allied Health Professionals. They are constantly striving to improve the standard of care delivery to prisoners and to make innovative changes, which will further enhance the service.
