Job overview

Here at the Waveney and Great Yarmouth Community Therapy Services, we are on a journey of improvement, and a fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced enthusiastic, committed and forward-thinking Arts Psychotherapist. The team comprises of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioners and Peer support workers.

In this role you will provide specialist evidence-based assessments and therapeutic interventions to adults in the community with severe and enduring mental health needs. The Arts Therapist appointed will be an active and valued member of the team, supporting psychologically informed approaches and building respectful working relationships with colleagues. They will have the opportunity to use their skills in reflective practice and formulation and be expected to actively participate in weekly MDT’s with colleagues from the adult community mental health teams. 

As group work is an important and valuable part of the service’s therapeutic programme, you be given an opportunity to utilise specialist skills in contributing to the development and delivery of a variety of groups. There is also an expectation to provide 1:1 Art Therapy, supporting people in their recovery and signposting to community arts opportunities. 

This is a permanent post, in a well-managed resourceful MDT. You will receive support to develop your professional knowledge and skills through CPD opportunities. 

 

Main duties of the job

We provide internal and external CPD opportunities and support to access line management and clinical supervision. We would also be very keen to support the post holder to network with other arts therapists within the trust. This is ideally a part time position at 30 hours a week, alternative hours may be considered for a successful candidate as the organisation promotes staff wellbeing.

The clinician joining the team will have a key responsibility for using their skills to enhance communication and understanding of the needs of the service user. You will be an active team player, supporting the wider needs of this team and be a contributor to innovative practice.

In return we will offer you regular managerial support, the opportunity for developing networks with others, and the opportunity to grow your knowledge by working alongside core mental health clinicians and other agencies and professionals.

You will be provided with opportunities to access relevant Clinical Supervision/ peer supervision as befits your registration requirements.

You will be joining a team comprised of Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioners and Peer Support Workers. With our team receiving referrals for adults with severe and enduring mental health, we pride ourselves on utilising interventions to target what is meaningful for an individual and we feel an offer of a creative therapy approach will be a valued and well-used resource for our team.

Essential criteria
  • Masters level / professional Art Psychotherapy Qualification
  • Registration with HPC as an Art Psychotherapist or British Association of Play Therapists

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of providing all aspects of Arts Psychotherapy to clients, carers and significant others.
Desirable criteria
  • Training and ability to deliver other therapeutic approaches e.g. DBT, EMDR, IPT
