Job overview

**The exciting new role of Associate Medical Director for West Norfolk Locality would also be considered for the right candidate, if the candidate was interested in a leadership development opportunity**

  • New Starter package of  £15,000 spread over 3 years as a retention bonus
  • supported by a £12,000 relocation allowance
  • roles also attract a loyalty Scheme Bonus of £2,500 over the subsequent 5 years of service
  • CPD of £2,000 per annum with the facility accumulate annual funding for up to three years to accommodate accessing higher cost development opportunities
  • ‘Holiday of a lifetime scheme’: Consultants and SASG doctors can bank/accrue annual leave over a period of up to 5 years, to facilitate an extended period of leave. The scheme enables the opportunity for planning a ‘holiday of a lifetime’ or extended paid break

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic Consultant to provide community secondary mental health services to adults over the age of 25 years with mental health needs requiring specialist assessment and interventions.

There are two adult Community Mental Health teams in the West Norfolk area; one that serves the Kings Lynn area and one that serves the Downham Market and Swaffham area

Main duties of the job

The post has 7.5 programmed direct clinical activity sessions and 2.5 programmed ‘supporting professional activity’ sessions.

The job plans and working patterns of doctors reflect the functional requirements of the Locality and the National Service Framework for Mental Health and are not determined by catchment area.

All whole time doctors are expected to work 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions in one or more of the clinical teams.

Through job planning and agreement 2.5 sessions Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) allow for the possibility of a special interest, teaching and research, management duties, administration and continuing professional development.

These arrangements allow for some flexibility and the opportunity for doctors to change their working patterns and clinical interests as things develop.  With regular job plan reviews it is expected that doctors roles will be flexible and the focus of the role change the from time to time, e.g. from predominantly in-patient to say primary care.

Working for our organisation

There are 10 consultant psychiatrist posts in West Norfolk.  These include 3 consultant psychiatrists in the working age adult community mental health service, 2 consultant psychiatrists working in older adults community services, one consultant psychiatrist working in the inpatient service at Samphire Ward, one consultant psychiatrist working in the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment team and one consultant psychiatrist working at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in a liaison service; this has recently been reviewed, and with an intention to meet Core 24 standards there will be a further consultant psychiatry post developed.  There are 2 consultant psychiatrists working in the Children, Family and Youth People’s Service, providing community care for people up to the age of 25 years.

The non-consultant workforce in West Norfolk includes 3 Staff and Specialist doctor posts, and up to 9 trainee doctors.  NSFT has developed a number of non-medical prescribers to support the clinical workforce in delivering timely and excellent care.
