Job overview

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing high quality, evidence-based care, and support children and young people with  diabetes. 

The post is based at King’s Lynn but travel to external sites will be expected.

Your role will be to assess,  plan, implement and evaluate high-quality holistic specialist diabetes nursing care; under the guidance of the paediatric diabetes clinical  nurse specialists.

Main duties of the job

To teach and assess families/carers to carry out specific diabetes cares.

 

To be responsible for planning, assessing, implementing and evaluating

individual children’s care plans.

 

Work in collaboration with parents/carers to provide care to children

and  young people in accordance with the child’s plan of care to meet

their needs, and to liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team

when changes  occur.

 

To become an effective resource to the families/clinical teams.

Qualifications/training & professional development

Essential criteria
  • RSCN/RN Child
  • Professional registration with NMC
Desirable criteria
  • Nursing Degree or evidence of working towards
  • Paediatric diabetes qualification
  • Teaching and Assessing/Mentorship qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience within paediatric nursing
  • Working knowledge of current policies and documents relating to best practice for children and young people with Diabetes
  • Experience of delivering training, presenting, and assessing professionals, families, students.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Sound understanding of young people and the difficulties they can experience and be confident to work with them and their carers
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a community setting
  • Experience of dealing with sensitive issues

Skills, abilities and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Proven clinical skills in Diabetes
  • Demonstrates excellent teamwork and commitment to multi-disciplinary working
  • Current knowledge of Nursing and health issues
  • Knowledge of RCPCH Peer review programme, CYPD knowledge, NPDA, Children’s Act
  • Knowledge of child protection workings and practices
  • Knowledge of clinical governance
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of budgets and responsibility in relation to role and team
  • Ability to devise, plan and deliver teaching packages
