We are accountable for the performance and finances of the NHS across Norfolk and Waveney – a total budget of £2 billion a year. Known as NHS Norfolk and Waveney, the organisation works with local people, health and care professionals, and partner organisations to improve the health and wellbeing of our population.

The organisation is part of the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System. A system dedicated to working with partners in local government, the voluntary sector and others and helping the NHS to support broader social and economic development and to tackle inequalities in health outcomes.

Job overview

Norfolk and Waveney ICB is looking for a Clinical Advisor for Dentistry, a dentist who is clinically active and working in Norfolk and Waveney.   with senior leadership experience.  The individual will be provide their extensive clinical knowledge and expertise to support the work of the ICB.  The role will also ensure the clinical voice of dentistry is an equal partner within primary care.   

Main duties of the job

The main duties will be to:

  • provide expert clinical knowledge and advice for dentistry matter;
  • provide professional advice as a dentist to the system such as around quality improvement working with the ICB's Dental Quality Lead Nurse,  practice performance matters, complaints and concerns and primary care commissioning; and
  • lead transformation and service re-design in one or more ICS transformation programmes.

The individual will work closely across ICB directorates, Norfolk and Waveney multiple partner organisations, East of England Regional Chief Dental Officers and Managed Clinical Network Chairs  and the local dental profession to provide strategic, clinical and care leadership.

This is the culmination of many years of effort to build partnership working across the NHS, local authorities, the third sector and patient groups.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registration with the General Dental Council as a General Dental Practitioner and on National Performers List
Desirable criteria
  • QSIR College Accredited (or other quality improvement approach), other additional relevant qualifications in dentistry

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant current/recent experience of ‘system thinking’ and working within health and care systems, the dental profession and an understanding of the wider NHS dental landscape
  • Experience of effectively coordinating meetings and working groups with a wide variety of stakeholders and partners

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates a significant understanding of the local health and care context and understands the challenges to NHS dentistry for Norfolk and Waveney
  • An evidenced track record of delivering high quality patient/service user focused care
  • Knowledge of evidence-based change and transformation
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Population Health Management approaches
