At the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH), we know the benefits diversity can bring to our organisation such as creativity, innovation and compassion. All of which have a direct impact towards our staff and patient experience. We are committed to being a Hospital for All – being equitable and inclusive, and a place where all feel a sense of belonging. Job overview

The Norfolk and Norwich Hospital is a leading teaching hospital with world-class facilities.  Physiotherapy is playing an instrumental role in the exciting developments in the Trust and our team is growing.  Our patients rate us highly on quality of care and having friendly approachable staff. We are looking for like-minded individuals to join us and take advantage of the opportunities we have on offer.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Physiotherapist to work within our Acute and Older Persons Physiotherapy Team, supporting Physiotherapy provision to our ‘Front Door Services’ comprising of our Acute Medical Unit’s (AMU’s) and Loddon Ward (short stay OPM).  This role will support service provision to a diverse ‘front door’ footprint including areas such as our Same Day Emergency Care Unit with its focus on admission avoidance, supporting the ongoing development of a Priority Assessment Unit (PAU), which offers an innovative strategy designed to support the offloading of ambulances, alongside prompt clinical assessment of patients referred to Medicine from the Emergency Department and from GPs- as well as providing urgent respiratory support for patients in the Emergency Department.  The role will support therapy intervention to our AMU’s whilst bridging this and our short stay OPM ward providing a ‘homefirst ethos’, utilizing our admission avoidance pathway to facilitate early discharge.  Weekend working will be required within the role.

Main duties of the job

As post holder you will work within a team of Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy Assistants undertaking a variety of clinical and non-clinical tasks to support the delivery of physiotherapy services to patients with an admission avoidance ethos, promoting early mobilisation and function. You will support junior and student staff, delegate to junior and assistant staff and have a role in teaching opportunities, including our band 5 induction programme.

As a team we are committed to providing early Physiotherapy intervention in parallel with the initial medical assessments.  The wider multidisciplinary team value our role in assessing those in the very acute stage of their hospital journey, informing ongoing acute care planning and/or admission avoidance, alongside our therapeutic skills supporting early mobility and function to manage and prevent deconditioning.

Our clinical caseload is hugely varied and embedded in a culture of education, development, and service improvement. Excellent communication skills and a willingness to develop yourself and others around you are essential.  In turn this exciting role offers you the opportunity to develop both your clinical and non-clinical skills with access to in-service training and personal development.

With our aim to support the wider Trusts vision for front door services we may have other similar senior opportunities available to suitable candidate.
