Are you looking to start a career in the NHS? The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital have exciting opportunities to join our Emergency Department (ED) as a Flow Co-Ordinator. It is an exciting time to join our ED as the team comes together to continue to develop the department towards recognition as a Major Trauma Centre. 

The Emergency Department is the busiest in the East of England, seeing in excess of 120,000 new patients each year. We are a dynamic, exciting and evolving department, constantly developing new effective ways of working. 

Your role within this team will be to support and work with the nursing and admin teams to ensure that the record of patient journeys through the department is accurately maintained in line with local policy and national guidelines.

*Please be advised this is for a one shift per week role, 12 hours – 07:00-19:30, 10:00-22:30, 19:00-07:30*

Main duties of the job

You  will work closely with the Lead Nurse and Coordinating Nurses to facilitate the timely management of patients through the Emergency Department (ED). 

The ED Patient Flow Coordinator will be responsible for the close monitoring and recording of an accurate patient discharge time from the ED on the electronic ED tracking system. You  will support the nursing and medical staff in the contemporaneous recording of the patient’s ED journey. You will participate in the general administrative and clerical duties in the ED to enable the smooth transfer of patients from ED to other departments in the Trust.

You will be responsible for escalating any impending issues to the Lead Nurse, Operational Manager. It is expected that you will have some contact with patients and relatives and will also liaise on a regular basis, as required, with medical staff, nursing staff and the Operational Site team.

To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH’s ‘PRIDE’ values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence

  • Oversee the accurate and timely documentation (ongoing validation) of patient information on the Emergency Department IT System. This includes following up diagnosis results and updating plans.
  • Timely updates of 4 hour breach reasons
  • Supporting the lead nurses, clinicians, operational managers
