Calling all Science degree graduates!

Applications are invited for the position of Trainee Healthcare Science Practitioner to join our friendly team in the Neurophysiology Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH). We provide an array of Neurophysiological investigations to a diverse range of outpatients and inpatients of all ages. We see around 5500 patients a year and our operational hours are from 0800 to 1800 on weekdays. The team comprises of 7 Scientists, 3 Consultants and a Registrar in Clinical Neurophysiology, along with 3 administrative staff.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic science degree graduate to study for a Post Graduate Certificate (PG Cert) or MSc in Neurophysiology, whilst working in a salaried training position giving you the opportunity to both gain a qualification and experience working with patients in a busy acute hospital setting.

Our ultimate goal is for the successful applicant to progress to become a qualified Healthcare Science Practitioner in Neurophysiology with continual employment with our hospital.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

You will be fully supported by our highly skilled team during the training period (approx. 3-4 years) and all tuition and examination fees will be paid by the Trust. You will be based in the Neurophysiology Department at the NNUH and will also attend Aston University (Birmingham), via block release and distance learning, to gain the PG Cert or MSc in Neurophysiology.

The successful candidate will learn to work with patients of all ages and abilities and to carry out a wide range of diagnostic investigations for epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, nerve injury and other neurological diseases. Although not essential, prior experience of working in a Healthcare environment with patients is beneficial. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated by continued professional development and have a keen interest in healthcare. The ultimate goal is for the successful candidate to be trained to provide a comprehensive Clinical Neurophysiological service.

Requirements for this post include:

  • First or upper second class honours degree in Clinical Physiology or equivalent in life sciences based subject e.g. Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacology, Physiology or a Physical Science subject.
  • Eligibility for Post Graduate Certificate in Neurophysiology entry.
  •  Previous experience working with the public

Clinical:

  • Maintain high professional standards of Neurophysiological services to patients.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure service(s) meet changing healthcare needs.
  • Work within agreed Trust and local policies and protocols.
  • Train to plan, perform, interpret and produce a report on range of standard Neurophysiological investigations to a high level of competence to outpatients and inpatients of all age groups, as routine or emergency studies  

Line Management / Financial Responsibilities:

  • Undertake responsibility for the efficient and effective use of physical and financial resources in own area.
  • Contribute to the effective and efficient use of information resources, administration and data storage including departmental patient database (Mindex).
  • Follow health and safety and quality assurance policies to patients, staff and visitors.

Specific Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the education and training of the Clinical Neurophysiology profession in line with National Standards and competencies.
  • Ensure personal compliance with CPD guidelines, mandatory training, and professional codes of conduct.
