Job overview

The Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital is seeking a fixed term 10PA consultant in paediatric medicine with expertise and interest in Paediatric obesity and mental health . The post is available from September 2024 for 6 months in the first instance. Successful applicant will provide 1:16 on-call to the acute paediatric service including and support the inpatient services and outpatient paediatric activity.

This post will support the complications of excess weight (CEW) service. Jenny Lind children’s hospital was one of 15 children’s hospitals chosen to host this new specialized service. Previous experience with the patient group is not a pre-requisite for the role. Individuals who are interested in developing their skills in this area post CCT are encouraged to apply. The role will sit within a wider MDT which includes; a psychologist, dietician, physiotherapist, specialist nurse, social worker, family support worker and administrator.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work with colleagues in paediatric respiratory medicine, paediatric medicine, surgery, and neonatology to provide respiratory support to inpatients and outpatients in the Jenny Lind Children Hospital.

The acute paediatrics and paediatric medicine on-call are delivered by a team of consultants working across children’s emergency department, children’s assessment unit and inpatient wards.

This post will have acute general Paediatric on call commitments and general Paediatric clinics including under 2’s clinic.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC with licence to practice
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree such as MD, MSc or PhD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Overseas applications to show equivalence to the 5 years training period in NHS
  • EPLS or APLS certification
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable knowledge and commitment to a career in paediatrics

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of formal and on-the-job clinical teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised postgraduate course in teaching/training (T5 or similar)

Clinical Governance

Essential criteria
  • Able to deliver high quality paediatric care
