Job overview

The PACU Team at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is recruiting a band 4 Nursing Associate to join their busy team.

PACU services cover 23 main operating theatres over two floors, and outreach areas comprising: Obstetric Theatres, CT & MRI, NCIR, Brachytherapy Suite and Gastroenterology.

Two new theatre suites are also due to open later this year: – the Jenny Lind Theatre Complex and the Norfolk & Norwich Orthopaedic Centre, where recovery staff will also be allocated to work in the associated PACU rooms.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of registered nurses, ODPs, HCAs, TSWs and medical staff.

The ability to communicate in a personable, approachable, and respectful manner to individuals from inside and outside the organisation is essential to building the relationships needed to promote safe working practices.

The PACU Team is dedicated to improving patients’ experience by undertaking Quality Improvement initiatives and staff satisfaction by staff involvement.

A supportive orientation programme is provided.  All newly appointed staff work in a supernumerary capacity alongside an assigned mentor until assessed as being competent to work in line with their job role.  As a teaching hospital, professional development of staff is supported.

Main duties of the job

To provide and monitor safe, person-centred care to designated patients whilst in the Recovery environment, under the direction of a registered nurse, without direct supervision in line with an agreed plan of care

To support the registered nurse by contributing to the on-going assessment and care planning for the patients.

The nursing associate will actively contribute to an effective learning environment and support others in their learning

Nursing associates will adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of conduct for nurses, midwives and nursing associates (NMC, 2018) and work within their scope of practice following the professional standards of practice and behaviours for nurses, midwives and nursing associates and the standards of proficiency.

To be accountable for own actions and omissions

To improve safety and quality of care by monitoring patient outcomes and reporting concerns to a registered nurse.

To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH’s ‘PRIDE’ values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The following skills and experience will be required and are essential for the successful candidates:

  • Uphold The Code of Conduct (NMC) and the reputation of the profession.
  • Work within the NMC code of professional practice adhering to policies, procedures and guidelines of The Norfolk and Norwich University NHS University Foundation Trusts.
