Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) are looking for 2 Maintenance Assistant to join our existing multi-disciplinary professional maintenance team in providing a safe environment for all service users, staff and visitors across our Norfolk sites being based at The Julian Hospital, Norwich.

Main duties of the job

The Maintenance Assistant will provide support to Craftspersons of all disciplines and on instruction from the Maintenance Services Works Officers will carry out planned and routine maintenance and minor repair works on a variety of engineering plant and equipment.

The work relates to both domestic and specialist commercial aspects of electrical, mechanical, building and grounds & gardens maintenance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be required to undertake planned and routine maintenance on a variety of engineering plant & equipment following appropriate training or assist Craftspersons with these tasks.

Undertake essential repair works and daily management defect work as instructed by the Works Officers and with a level of competence following appropriate training.

The post holder may be required to participate in the Maintenance Services on-call roster, vacancy permitting, which will require them to attend out of hours calls to make emergency repairs/make safe electrical, mechanical and building services to ensure our Trust has business continuity at all times.

Assist Craftpersons with carrying out minor new installation and alteration works.

 Assist with gritting of footpaths and roads during adverse weather conditions including participation in local arrangements for snow clearing and gritting outside normal hours.

Undertake Service Level Agreement work for other NHS organisations and private customers in a professional manner, comply with their requirements and accurately complete all paperwork including time, materials etc.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full UK driving licence for ability to drive Trust vehicles
Desirable criteria
  • C&G, NVQ or BTEC qualifications in a mechanical, electrical or building field
  • PMA Training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum two years work experience in a mechanical, electrical or building field having demonstrated versatility & flexibility
  • Practical experience of general maintenance
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a mental health & secure services environment
