Job overview

The role of the Occupational Therapist at the Julian Hospital is instrumental to the progress of our patients. We are looking for a compassionate and resilient Band 6 Occupational Therapist to support our patients on Blickling Ward. Blickling Ward is a  re-furbished older adult inpatient ward for service users that have a functional mental health disorder. We are recruiting an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary team and support patients in their recovery from acute illness. The OT will be required to complete assessment of the service users to support safe discharges from hospital. This often requires assessment in their own home which means that being a driver is essential to the role.  You will benefit from onsite parking. The AHP roles on the Julian site sit under the ward management structure which gives the added benefit of being fully incorporated into the ward teams.  As well as the supervision provided by the ward you will also receive support from the wider AHP team colleagues across the site.  At the Julian hospital we have great links between AHP colleagues across professions and throughout the care group and we have an AHP clinical lead who is available to provide leadership and support AHP specific matters and encourage your involvement with AHP service development projects.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide supervision and direction to Band 5 OT colleagues on site.
  • To oversee and deliver high quality evidence-based practice and embed the Occupational Therapy process within the clinical area.
  • Undertake occupation focused assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment for service users.
  • To support in the assessment and discharge planning of patients from an acute ward.
  • Driving will be an essential duty of the job in order to facilitate home assessment and effective discharge planning.
  • This includes equipment provision within the community setting.
  • Contribute to and participate in multi-disciplinary team assessment and formulation. Providing specialist occupation-based advice and formulation.
  • Participate/lead on developments within the service by using outcome measures and engaging in Quality Improvement projects (both locally and Trust wide).
  • Monitor the practice of junior staff and learners, identifying any learning and development needs in respect of their clinical skills base.
  • Attend the monthly AHP team meetings.
  • Deputise for AHP Clinical Lead where appropriate.
