Job overview

We're seeking a motivated clinician with significant operational management experience to lead the operational management of patient flow and safety across NSFT.

You will work closely  with Trust locality teams and system partners  to support the safe implementation of patient pathways. You will be  responsible for the reduction in Length of Stay objectives in order to ensure optimal patient flow though their treatment journey working alongside the bed management teams and locality leads.

Ideally you'll be experienced in operational management in a senior clinical role within a Healthcare / NHS setting and with dealing with complex situations, conflict management and will ideally have previous experience working within patient flow. Problem solving and being able to respond and adapt to a changing high pressure environment are key to this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Operational Flow and Capacity Lead will lead on the delivery of response and timely services across NSFT, with a particular focus on ensuring effective and efficient flow across inpatient and community services.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the safe and effective day to day operations of the organisation are maintained through strong tactical and operational leadership and part of the wider Senior Operational Team.

The post holder will be expected to act independently, taking timely and at times, significant decisions to ensure the operational delivery for the organisation, driving change and improvement by supporting and influencing both the operational delivery teams (Localities) and corporate teams.

 The post will be responsible for leading the planning for delivery of key performance indicators.

The post holder will lead service developments and policy reviews in areas impacted by key performance issues e.g., Clinically Ready For Discharge (CRFD) and Out of Area Placements (OAP) supported by the Trust transformation office.

The role will be responsible for the delivery of the on-going agenda of flow and capacity and will manage the staff associated with the services (bed management, operations room and associated staffing).

The post holder will lead the System Flow Operations and Winter Pressures agenda. They will be required to use expert operational knowledge to lead on the development of business cases to support the delivery of the Trust and ICB objectives in relation to flow and capacity, cognisant of national drivers and improvement programmes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level nurse with current NMC registration UK/ AHP with active registration with relevant professional body.
Desirable criteria
  • Doctorate in a health-related subject

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience of working at a senior level including managing changing and introducing new ways of working in a complex environment
  • Experience of senior management at an operational level in a complex environment with diverse situations and management and change management

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to produce reports and documents using relevant technology to present complex data and strategy with clarity.
  • Able to interpret complex information and take appropriate action and to provide expert advice as a result.
