Job overview

A unique and very exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a full time  Band 7 Macmillan Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Leader at Harrogate and District Foundation Trust.

This role requires an experienced individual with previous experience of working within the field of haematology and be able to work autonomously and act as an expert resource for various clinical teams.  You will be able to demonstrate leadership and management skills and be an excellent communicator.

The post holder will form part of a cohesive team of Haematologists, nurse specialists, advanced nurse practitioner  and trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners who work closely with clinicians across the trust and the tertiary site in Leeds.

Main duties of the job

·        To practice as a clinical nurse specialist demonstrating good knowledge and competence in all aspects of care and treatment relating to Haematological malignancies &  general Haematology

·        To implement a personalised care and support approach, and undertake care plans in consultation with all patients

·        Carry a caseload and responsibility for the management of complex cases

·        Communicate very sensitive condition related information to patients and relatives. This includes highly complex information that needs to be conveyed in easily understood language.

·        Provide line management and leadership to the clinical nurse specialist team

·        Support and Coordinate the Clinical Nurse Specialist  service  on a day to day basis

·        Facilitate in the overall business planning and development of the service including new and innovative patient pathways

·        Conduct and facilitate Patient Education Programmes to promote self-management for patients living with and beyond their cancer

·        Actively participate and contribute in the team’s business and quality meetings.

Essential and Desirable

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse educated to degree level
  • Educated to Masters level or willingness to undertake
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Relevant experience in the caring for patients with haematological conditions and ability to demonstrate expert nursing skills
  • Experience of leadership/ management role in recent clinical role
  • Ability to work autonomously and capable of working as an integral member of a small team
  • Able to development positive working relationships and work across professional and organisational boundaries
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification
  • Independent prescribing qualification
  • Post registration certificate in speciality
  • Experience in the broad range of treatment modality settings for cancer.
  • Experience of audit and research
