Job overview

We are pleased to be able to offer an exciting opportunity to join the Patient Systems Team at Harrogate District Foundation Trust. In partnership with our chosen supplier, we have embarked on our digital excellence journey to implement an Electronic Patient System (EPR) system that will transform the quality of care for our patients and staff by having instantly accessible information using the latest mobile technology, reducing paper usage and utilising clinical decision support tools.

The Patient Systems Manager will lead and manage a specialist team of multi skilled Digital professionals responsible for the implementation and optimisation of the new EPR, reporting into the Patient Systems Operational Managers.

We are looking for a highly organised, dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated individual with specific organisation knowledge and experience, or previous experience of implementing an EPR, to provide expert specialist knowledge enabling successful systems implementation, administration, training  and further development of electronic patient systems.

The successful candidate will be able to work in a team  with excellent communication, interpersonal skills and leadership qualities. They will also have good IT technical skills and some management experience in related IT projects.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will be responsible for the  management  of a  number of electronic patient record systems. As such the post-holder will be able to provide expert specialist knowledge and experience enabling successful systems review, procurement, implementation, training, administration and further development.

These roles will build relationships across the Trust and external organisations, direct and change perspectives on electronic patient and clinical systems and systems training, promoting the importance of high quality data to inform effective decision-making.

They will also support the Trusts Digital Strategy ensuring the relevant implementation and  support activities are identified, resourced accordingly and delivered effectively to project timescales.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicants will

Provide expert specialist knowledge enabling successful systems procurement, implementation, administration and further development of electronic patient systems.

Manage and lead a specialist team of multi skilled information professionals responsible and accountable for the delivery of an information service to the Corporate and Clinical Directorates.

Plan, develop and implement work programmes for systems development and upgrades, informing options available and recommending preferred solutions as appropriate.

Provide specialist support and advice on systems configuration and use to support all aspects of care, service planning, policy-making and accountability.

Provide specialist advice on systems specification, requirements, functionality, implementation, and roll out across the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level in a clinical speciality e.g., Nursing, Midwifery,Physiotherapy etc. or Business Administration/Change Management/ Health Informatics/ Process Redesign or similar, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through practical experience.
Desirable criteria
  • IT Service Management Qualification
  • Project Management Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 3 years systems experience using electronic patient systems
  • Significant experience using PAS/EPR systems
  • Significant experience of managing a team
  • Experience in designing, building, testing and deploying clinical systems within specialist and complex organisations.
  • Evidence of building effective working relationships with clinical leaders, Partner organisations and other stakeholders
  • Patient workflow, template and protocol design
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Previous experience of implementing PAS/EPR
  • Experience of producing high quality systems documentation
  • Previous experience of implementing bespoke, specialty specific systems

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to prioritise own and team’s workload and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of systems process and administration
  • Comprehensive verbal and written communication skills
  • Change management skills
  • Previous experience working on the design, development, and implementation of new business processes within the context of a computer system implementation project
  • High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to lead, influence and motivate
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS data definitions and data standards
  • Systems training programme development skills
  • Understanding of Information Governance and confidentiality
  • Project management and resource planning skills
