Job overview

Due to promotion of the current post holder, we have an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced, motivated, driven and ambitious pharmacist to join the HDFT Pharmacy Team in the post of Lead Pharmacist – Medicines Effectiveness, Procurement and Homecare.  This is an opportunity for an already highly experienced pharmacist to broaden and develop their senior leadership skills working with a wide range of stakeholders, both in the Trust, the ICS and the Yorkshire and Humber region. 

The successful candidate will be an active member of the Humber and North Yorkshire ICS medicines value and commissioning group and will lead on best value medicine schemes including biosimilar switches and implementation of new homecare schemes.  This post provides you exposure of working both with clinical and commissioning colleagues.  You will work closely with high cost drug specialties including ophthalmology, gastroenterology, rheumatology and dermatology.  You will be influencing the best value medicines agenda across the Humber and North Yorkshire footprint and would need to have strong influencing and negotiating skills.

The post holder will be an integral member of the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Procurement group, working with colleagues from across the region to navigate the complexities and challenges facing procurement of medicines.  

 

Main duties of the job

To ensure the most cost effective and clinical effective use of medicines at HDFT through:

 

·         Management of the pharmacy procurement team and service.

·         To be a member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team providing strategic leadership to the pharmacy and medicines management service.

·         Providing the pharmacy leadership and support to the Medicines and Therapeutics Group (MTG) and Area Prescribing Committee (APC) in relation to the introduction of new medicines, evaluation of information on new medicines and development of appropriate prescribing and administration guidelines etc.

·         To coordinate and lead the HDFT approach to commissioning high cost medicines, including Individual Funding Requests (IFRs) with the ICB and NHS England.

·         To develop the HDFT formulary in accordance with decisions made by the MTG and APC.

·         To lead, develop and implement medicines savings initiatives to meet the HDFT Medicines Savings Plan.

·         To manage the safe, cost effective and timely procurement of medicines in accordance with Regional and National contracts and HDFT Standing Financial Instructions.

·         To oversee the management of medicines Homecare schemes.

·         To act as Pharmacy contract manager for outsourced outpatient pharmacy services

·         To administer and maintain national and regional drug purchasing contracts including input to tendering and adjudication of such contracts.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GPhC registration as a pharmacist
  • Leadership or management qualification
  • Post-graduate qualification e.g. PGDip or MSc or equivalent
  • Pharmaceutical services leadership and experience
  • Procurement and homecare experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using Ascribe
  • Experience of operational pharmacy services leadership
  • Experience of purchasing and invoicing
