Senior Care Support Worker - Women's Unit

Job overview

The post holder will assist the qualified nurses, consultants and specialist nurses to ensure that high standards of care and support are provided within the unit. This will involve greeting patients, bringing them through for procedures, supporting and assisting in clinics with equipment set-up, and comforting and monitoring patients post-procedure etc.

The post holder will work unsupervised within agreed designated duties. 

The post holder will carry out some clerical duties associated with the Unit. The jobholder will assist in the overall implementation and evaluation of care as part of the multi professional team. The jobholder is expected to plan, implement, deliver and maintain high standards of patient care. The jobholder will be skilled in taking appropriate action(s) and acting on own initiative to achieve the planned outcomes.

Main duties of the job

  1. Assist in the maintenance of high standards of patient care.
  2. After a period of training and supervision, record patient observations and report to nurse in charge.
  3. Carry out agreed general duties in the Women’s Unit including the collecting and filing of notes and results.
  4. Ability to answer phone, effectively managing the enquiry and to be confident dealing with complex enquiries in person, or by telephone.
  5. Ensure co-ordination and administrative duties are maintained.
  6. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  7. Report any untoward incidents regarding patients or staff, including safeguarding, to the nurse in charge.
  8. Assist with the cleaning and general tidiness of the unit.
  9. Take responsibility for ordering stores, monitoring stock levels and maintaining a safe, tidy storage area.
  10. Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, families, carers and patient groups.
  11. Develop and maintain appropriate relationships, communication and teamwork with members of the multi-disciplinary team within the ward/department.
  12. Promote effective relationships within the teams in the Women’s Unit and with visitors to the unit.
  13. Participate in and contribute to local audits (e.g. hand hygiene audit)
  14. Escalate concerns with regards to patient’s physical or psychological needs, or changes in their clinical condition to a registered practitioner within appropriate time frames.
  15. Attend and maintain records of mandatory training.
