There is a combined Intensive Therapy and Surgical High Dependency Unit with a total of ten beds which are managed by a lead Anaesthetist.

Working for our organisation

The Department of Urology is well established with strong governance and protocols. Team work flourishes, with good communication within the core and wider teams. Junior doctors report good experiences of working in a happy and cohesive team. Teaching and training is high on the agenda, with monthly combined Journal clubs and governance meetings.

The Urology service is currently led by Mr Chris Mahon General Surgeon (Group Clinical Lead).  The Urology team are supported by a Clinical Director, an Operational Director, General Manager, Service Manager and Matron for the Planned and Surgical Care Directorate. The team are also supported by corporate functions including Human Resources, Information Services and Finance.

The Urology department has a close alliance with the Urology department at St James’ University Hospital in Leeds.

All Harrogate outpatient services, including haematuria clinics are provided in a dedicated Outpatient facility in close vicinity to the Emergency Department.

Pre operative assessment is well established within the Urology department and is a nurse led service.  Nurse led follow up and telephone follow-up has been in place for a number of years and is encouraged and supported by the Urology team.
