Job overview

We are looking for a receptionist who is flexible, motivated, appropriately trained and enthusiastic, who possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to work with a diverse range of clients to provide high quality care. Candidates will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team across all areas of the Sexual Health services, in an innovative sexual health and HIV setting.

The post involves providing and maintaining high quality service user focused access to the Integrated Sexual Health Service via customer service and support, across all service clinical venues in a confidential and non-judgemental way.

The successful candidate will support service users to access all aspects of the provision available from the Integrated Sexual Health Service.

Main duties of the job

Act as the initial point of contact, for, and provide general information directly to, patients, visitors, staff and others, possibly both internal and external, via correspondence, the telephone, email or face-to-face.

Deal with routine enquiries where appropriate, or make judgements on the most relevant referral point, acknowledging that the nature of such enquiries could involve personal and sensitive information, in respect of which confidentiality must be maintained at all times.

Make appointments as appropriate, which may include issuing written confirmation through already prepared standard and routine letters. Email and text. Resolve any problems or issues, wherever possible, which may arise, including those relating to the planning and preparation of, for example, Clinic schedules.

Undertake basic Clerical tasks, such as, for example, distribution of incoming/outgoing post, filing, photocopying and completion of standard Forms/Returns. May be required to type/word process routine letters and other appropriate documents.

Record information on relevant Systems, including that relating to patients where appropriate, which may be computerised or paper-based.

You will be supporting multiple clinics within sexual health. This may involve chaperoning. Experience is not necessary as training will be given, but a willingness to learn and develop is essential.

Person specification

Qualification Knowledge and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent. Maths and English at C or above – or equivalent qualification/demonstrable experience
  • Computer literacy skills to RSA2, NVQ 2 or equivalent/demonstrable experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Office/Administrative experience in an NHS environment
  • Experience (1 year minimum) Office/Administrative role
  • Experience of dealing with confidential information
  • Experience of working in a receptionist capacity
