There is an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Specialist Nurse in Child Protection to work within the Middlesbrough Integrated 0-19 Healthier Together service as part of the Safeguarding Children's team. 

The successful applicant will work closely with the Named Nurse, the 0-19 Middlesbrough Integrated management team, and the wider HDFT Safeguarding Children's Team supporting activities to ensure the Trust meets its responsibilities regarding safeguarding children by the Children Act 1989 and 2004 and Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023).

The post holder will work as part of the 0-19 Service and Integrated Safeguarding Team to contribute their knowledge and expertise in the management of safeguarding cases, assessing risk factors and safeguarding issues for children and adults, and helping identify those services that are best placed to support the children, adults, and families concerned.

Main duties of the job

To provide advice and support to health professionals relating to the safeguarding of children and young people across the Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, (HDFT), footprint, working with partner agencies to ensure robust and timely communication and effective practice to safeguard children.

To plan, facilitate and evaluate a training programme that is consistent with the Intercollegiate Document. Safeguarding Children and Young People, Roles and Competencies for Health Care Staff (2019) and the HDFT Child Protection Training Strategy. This involves the development and delivery of training courses across HDFT, in provider organisations with whom there is a Service Level Agreement (SLA) and as part of the multi-agency Local Safeguarding Children Partnership.

To provide Reflective Child Protection Supervision for employees of HDFT (and employees of organisations with whom there is a SLA) as set out within the HDFT Child Protection Supervision Policy.

To provide information for high level and complex safeguarding meetings with in depth reports, analysis of records and in line with Information Sharing Agreements where appropriate.

To work within the Front Door (when required) providing robust reports of high quality, contributing to multiagency conversations and decision making to ensure appropriate support is offered to children and families.

To support practitioners when preparing documents or attendance to Court. 

To support the Named Nurses.

There is an expectation that the post holder will work from office bases in the Middlesbrough locality, and there is an option to work from home occasionally.

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC Registration and Degree in a subject relevant to the position with a wide range of child protection experience
  • Up to date with level 3 safeguarding children and adults training
  • Able to demonstrate experience facilitating single agency training in Safeguarding Children or related topics.
  • Highly developed specialised safeguarding children knowledge and demonstrable practical experience
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification and/or experience in safeguarding supervision/Peer Supervisor.
  • Evidence of a leadership or development course
