The Estates Department are looking to recruit a highly motivated Building Technician, (Plumbing BIAS), to work as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team primarily within the Scarborough/Bridlington area.

The department provides management, development, maintenance and operational support for the Trust's buildings and engineering infrastructure. The role is critical to the Estates Department's very busy maintenance support service, and is demanding covering a wide range of engineering services for you to hone your skills on. The role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning, and maintenance, of a range of engineering services in the Trust's clinical, and non-clinical facilities, within a very busy directorate, and to be part of a team that is constantly working to improve the quality and safety of the Trust's healthcare facilities.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be based at Scarborough Hospital but must be willing to work at any of the Trust's sites. You must be flexible regarding hours of duty and will be expected to undertake appropriate training, including Health and Safety training.

The successful candidate will have a good general knowledge of building services and engineering maintenance, backed up by BTech, City and Guilds Craft Certificate or NVQ 3 qualification in an engineering discipline, (preferably mechanical engineering).

The successful candidate must be able to work co-operatively as part of a team, comprising skilled and semi-skilled maintenance colleagues, and have demonstrable experience of working within a maintenance environment. In addition, the successful candidate should be reliable, resilient, enthusiastic, motivated and be able to work under pressure, with minimum supervision.

The successful candidate will also be required to participate in an on-call/out of hours rota, for which an additional payment will be made. They must have the ability to transport themselves and equipment throughout the community over the course of a normal working day.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • The post holder must have completed an accredited trade specific Building Services apprenticeship (3-4 Years) in either Carpentry & Joinery, Bricklaying or Plumbing & Heating/ Environmental
  • The current driving license should not amass 12 points within any 3-year period. For new drivers they should not amass 6 points within the first 2 years of passing their test.
  • The post holder will be required to complete further qualifications in Carpentry & Joinery, Bricklaying and Plumbing & Heating/ Environmental to create a multi disciplined individual*

Experience

Essential criteria
  • The post holder will have completed further development (normally 2 post years initial apprenticeship training) gathering specialist expertise in Building Services and gained knowledge across a range of technical subjects in a commercial (not residential) setting
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist expertise in Health service knowledge across a range of technical subjects listed below, to enable them to carry out statutory required tasks in the areas.
  • Ideally knowledge of specialist hospital water and drainage systems.
  • Knowledge of legal requirements in terms of building services.
