A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Band 7 Sister/Charge Nurse/Unit Manager for our Interventional  Radiology and Cardiology Lab Unit at York and Scarborough Hospitals. This is a cross site role with on call responsibility.

We are looking for a motivated, compassionate and dedicated leader to manage, support and develop an expert team of nurses and health care support workers in this specialised field whilst also ensuring the highest level of care and experience for our patients. There is also going to be the unique opportunity of leading this team and being part of the project for the planning and running of a new unit!  

The unit has also recently been accredited with BSIR Exemplar Status for excellence in service provision which we are exceptionally proud of, so if you think you are looking for a new challenge, with the opportunity to develop yourself and your team alongside you then this could be the job for you!

Previous Interventional Radiology, Cardiology or Theatre experience would be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have the following responsibilities and roles:

  • Have 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward/department/team, providing management and professional leadership for the nursing team.
  • Have the responsibility for ensuring the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care are maintained to a high standard.
  • Hold the management responsibility for the administrative and financial aspects of the ward/department.
  • Will ensure cost effective use of resources.
  • Is the champion of and role model for the team to ensure that the highest professional standards are upheld in their ward / department.
  • Will work in partnership with the Matron and facilities and is personally responsible for ensuring high standards of hospital cleanliness are maintained on their ward/department and meet the standards required.
  • Will utilise outcome measures and patient experience feedback to influence improvements the quality and safety of patient care at 
    ward/department level.

  • Registered Nurse (Level 1)
  • Recognised teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Degree level qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 18 months post registration experience at Band 6 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Service development and/or change management
  • Budgetary Experience
  • Previous Interventional Radiology, Cardiology or Theatre experience
