Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who would like to join our Pharmacy Stores team in the Pharmacy Department at York Hospital. Applicants must have experience of working within a Pharmacy Stores environment alongside team leading experience and a good understanding of stock management.

Main duties of the job

This post involves the day to day supervising and supporting a busy pharmacy stores team. Experience in receiving, processing, and delivering medicines and IV fluids to wards is essential to this role.

An understanding of stock management is crucial; this involves checking, receiving, and storing medicines. Ensuring that medicines are stored appropriately and securely both in pharmacy and on wards, participating in stock-taking and the checking of medicines is an important part of this role, so attention to detail is vital.

The post holder will be responsible for the training of staff and will also undertake various housekeeping duties including dealing with queries, checking, and filing documents, processing waste and excess medicines and other duties supporting the efficient and safe operation of the pharmacy department.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and Mathematics, or equivalent.
  • Accredited units in NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 Team leadership course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial practical work experience and knowledge relating to the procedures and provision of a hospital pharmacy stores service.
  • Knowledge and application of Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance systems
  • Good distribution practices
  • Knowledge of COSHH
  • Knowledge and experience of managing stock control
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and experience of working with an automated dispensing robot.
  • Hospital pharmacy stores experience.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Proven skills in organising, supervising and training staff.
  • Ability to prioritise workflow when the need arises
  • Proven communication skills and ability to communicate with staff to extract maximum output with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to problem solve independently escalating to a senior member of staff when appropriate.
