Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual interested in developing skills within hospital pharmacy services. You will gain experience in the pharmacy dispensary whilst working towards a Level 2 qualification in pharmacy. Previous pharmacy experience would be an advantage, however full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

Applications are also welcomed from candidates that already hold a recognised Level 2 qualification in pharmacy. These applicants, if successful at interview will be appointed at a band 3.

You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be able to adapt to changing demands and be committed to providing a high quality patient focused service.

Candidates must have GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C/4 or above or an equivalent qualification. Candidates must also meet the essential criteria of the person specification.

Main duties of the job

The role of the successful candidate will include:

  • Dispensing discharge, inpatient, specialist outpatient and outside unit prescription requests.
  • Dispensing discharge and stock controlled drug prescription requests.
  • Ensuring the pharmacy waste and medication returns are dealt with appropriately and disposed of or returned according to Trust waste guidelines and departmental procedures.
  • Providing reception and delivery support where applicable.
  • Ordering and maintaining stock as part of an allocated weekly ward top-up.
  • Participation in the weekend and bank holiday rota.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent. Maths and English at C or above – or equivalent qualification/. You must have proof of qualifications.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work to protocols, procedures and SOPs and suggest changes.
Desirable criteria
  • Pharmacy experience.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience.
