The York Research and Development department has an exciting opportunity for 2 Registered Nurses to join our commercial research team.

You will be supporting our Mission of enhancing patient outcomes and experiences through access to research, for all our patients and staff. And our Vision of working together to strengthen the research culture within our Trust and to embed research into everyday clinical practice.

Please note: the main work base for the post holders will be at York Hospital, with expectations to be able to travel and work at Scarborough Hospital as required.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The role of the Research Nurse is to assist in the management and co-ordination of commercial research projects involving patients, families and carers at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This post will involve the safe conduct of industry funded research within the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network.  The role will involve facilitating the aims of the NIHR at a local level by ensuring that the Trust meets its targets for research delivery.

You will work as an integral part of the commercial research team co-ordinating, delivering, monitoring and recording the care and progress of patients involved in research studies and clinical trials. You will also promote the work of Research within the Trust and contribute to the development of our commercial portfolio. Experience working on commercial studies is essential.

You will ensure that all elements of clinical trial work is carried out in accordance with UK and EU legal requirements, Trust policies and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and regulatory requirements to provide assurance that the rights, safety and wellbeing of patients are protected.

Education, Qualifications and Training

  • Registered Nurse or other trained Registered Allied Health Professional with commercial research experience
  • Training in ICH-GCP clinical trial standards and the detailed trialspecific rules it provides for administration and record keeping – if formal training not already undertaken, willingness to be sent on training course at start of the job

  • Working towards degree or equivalent

Experience and Knowledge

  • Professional clinical knowledge of nursing patients or patient care, acquired through at least 2 years post registration experience.
  • Understanding of the local and National nursing agenda.
  • Understanding of relevant National Service Frameworks / National guidance.
  • Understanding of research based practice.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.

  • Post registration qualification in Specialty.

Skills and Attributes

  • Liaise with consultants, other medical staff and health professionals to ensure satisfactory communication with patients and seamless delivery of care.

  • Ability to make judgements about a range of clinical issues or complex patient conditions.
  • Ability to identify patients who may be eligible for trials and evaluate their eligibility in relation to complex research protocols, referring to other professionals as necessary.
